Welcome to Death Monkey

Skateboarding has always lived at the fringes of society – as a sport, as a culture and as a community. The irony is it is exactly the opposite. It nurtures the coolest, most supportive community that accepts and includes all ages, races, genders and abilities.  Death Monkey was born from this simple idea that we are all welcome, always, no matter where we’ve come from nor what our dreams are.  Our mission is to channel that special energy that defines skate culture to help others embrace the good in themselves and the community around them.

My Story

Death Monkey was born from my love of skateboarding.

Starting from the age of 8, I would take lessons with my skate coach Conor at parks across the city.  During the downtime between tricks he would encourage us to doodle and sketch skate related images.  He would then take those images, get them screened onto patches and show up at the next session with our patches ready for us. Those patches became a sign of the community that I was a part of.  A community - often of complete strangers - who were supporting me on my personal skate journey.  The patches became a symbol of the blood, sweat, tears and ultimate acceptance I experienced every time I hit the park.

I loved the sense of belonging I found within skate culture. The way it so quickly became a place I could escape into my own mind as I built up trick upon trick, over and over.

I knew one day I wanted to take that feeling and share it with more people.
